I know you are all wondering why my blog is named. "Chickens in Mailboxes." Well gather 'round children, I have a story to tell you! Well it first began when I was at work for my first week. Now at the museum there is this area called, "Kid's Eye View". Basically it is a little town, that is all made to a kids scale. There is a house, a construction zone, a farm, a little river, a market, and even a gas station! Now there is also a very prominent little feature to this town. The Post.... Mail to you Yanks. There are mail boxes outside of every little area in Kids Eye View that I mentioned. Kids LOVE to dress up like the mail man (or woman) and get the little laminated letters and deliver them to the mail boxes all around the little town. Its rather cute and the kids have a great time.
But then...I noticed something. Kids don't see mailboxes as something that only mail can go in. Oh no... they look at it as something, to stuff, pretty much just about anything in, and they stuff it to the brim. The plastic food from the market. The baby dolls from the house. The horse shoes from the farm. Anything.......But.... I did find out that they have a favorite...The Chickens. We have stuffed life sized chickens in these little coops in the Farm Area. There are eggs too, so the kids can gather the eggs like farmers do. But they think that this is boring and just decide to suffocate and squish the poor helpless chickens in to the mailbox. And they stuff like 5 life size chickens in there! Those poor chickens....we have already had to pull them off the floor multiple times to that our props lady can give them new eyes, and sew them back together... *sniffle* Sorry chickens...I still love you...
